Mobility to manage stress and pain

Going outside is a crucial aspect of maintaining good health. Numerous studies have shown the many benefits that being in nature can have on our physical and mental well-being. This March, for Mobility month it’s time to focus on incorporating time outside into our daily routines to improve our overall health and well-being.

Being in nature has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety by lowering the levels of cortisol, the stress hormone, in our bodies. In fact, a study published in the journal Environmental Science & Technology found that “just 20 minutes in nature can reduce stress levels by as much as a prescription anti-anxiety drug.”

A study by the University of Essex also found that walking in green spaces significantly improves self-esteem and mood. Unsurprisingly, it can also improve cognitive function, including attention and memory.

Incorporating physical activity into your time in nature can also have numerous health benefits. Outdoor exercise has been shown to be more effective in reducing depression and anxiety than indoor exercise. Additionally, exposure to natural light has been shown to be important for regulating our circadian rhythm, which is essential for good sleep and overall health.

Clearly, spending time in nature is an important aspect of maintaining good health. Getting active outdoors can improve posture, strengthen and reduce tension in neck and back muscles and reduce stress levels, all of which can assist with neck pain, back pain and headaches. Of course, seeing a Chiropractor can help too.

So, take some time to enjoy the great outdoors, and you’ll be on your way to a healthier, happier life.
